Let’s start off with the modern design. Available in Bone and Onyx colors, the ultra-lightweight Status Between 3ANC earbuds have a unique streamlined look with short, wide metal-clad stems. At the top of the each bud you’ll find a single button and an indicator light. The button allows toggling through active noise cancelling (ANC) and ambient listening modes, and playback can be controlled on the touch sensitive area.
You’ll size each earbud with one of three silicon oblong ear tips (in three sizes: 12mm, 13mm, and 15mm) and one of three fitwings, which fit around the driver enclosure to improve stability. I found them to be comfortable and secure during my usage, and you can mix and match sizes if your ears warrant it.
Performance
What makes the Between 3ANC earbuds so unique? Each earbud incorporates three separate drivers rather than the more common single driver. A traditional 10mm dynamic driver is used in conjunction with two balanced armatures to cover the range of audible frequencies, delivering a frequency range of 5Hz to 25kHz. The dynamic driver handles the low frequencies, while the balanced armatures take care of the mids and highs.
It’s the same award-winning triple driver acoustic system featured in the Status Between Pro earbuds, with subtle tuning refinements for increased range and clarity. There is a functional and user-friendly app that allows users to choose from three different tuning presets: Original Between Pro EQ, Signature EQ, and Audiophile EQ. The result … ultra-wide frequency response with impressive clarity.
If you’re an urban dweller and need to filter out background noise, the Between 3ANC earbuds feature hybrid active noise cancellation up to 38 decibels, which effectively tune out background distractions.
Other Key Features
The Between 3ANC earbuds have an impressive battery life; 8 hours of continuous audio playback with ANC on and 12 hours of playback with ANC off. They are also IPX-5 Water Resistance certified, so you don’t have to worry about sweating during tough workouts. Rain, sweat and splashes pose no problems for the Between 3ANC.
The earbuds also house six beamforming microphones with environmental noise reduction (ENR), providing steady wireless call quality if you get an incoming phone call.
