The “Tesla” of chainsaws needs to be a staple in everyone’s tool collection. Including the pros!
We’ll start by comparing features of the 2.8hp leading gas-powered chainsaw to the Cat 60v brushless 18″ chainsaw.
- Start time to first cut: Cat- Pull trigger. Gas 1-5 minutes. – Advantage CAT
- Operating expense: CAT charged from 25% = .69 (based on NAKWPH) vs Gas/2 cycle = .98 (based on ANGP) – Advantage Cat
- Chain Tensioning: CAT- less than a minute. Gas- more than! – Advantage CAT
- Horsepower: The 60v lithium-ion technology provides the Cat with 2.3hp while the best comparable 18″ gas chainsaw runs at 2.8HP – Advantage gas.
- Cutting Speed: the CAT is 34% faster than leading 2.8hp gas – Advantage CAT
- Safety Features – Both saws provide chain break and anti-kick systems- Push
- Weight- CAT weighs 16.3lbs w/Bat. Gas weighs 15.5lbs w/gas – Advantage Gas
- Chain Pitch: CAT 3.75 vs GAS 3.25 – Advantage CAT
- Noise Decibel: CAT runs at an average of 19 decibels lower – Advantage CAT
- Eco: At less than 3kwh per charge the CAT causes 2.5lbs of carbon dioxide while a quart of gas for a chainsaw causes 4.75lbs of carbon dioxide. Advantage CAT
- Chain speed: Gas 44ft/sec vs Cat 79ft/sec. – Advantage Cat
- Price: Both saw go for $399.95 – Push
I know this is starting to sound redundant, but CAT just does it better! On every piece of CAT equipment that I’ve done comparisons on, CAT just does it better! In some cases, a little better as with WORX products and in other cases a lot better as is the case with this review. Take two 60V 5AH batteries in the woods with you and you can cut all day! The batteries have a 5yr warranty and come with the tool at an increased cost of around $130.00. You can get the saw for $270 without a battery. I don’t know how long the batteries will last past 5yrs, but I have some overworked 18V batteries that are still good on drills I purchased in 2011. Just a thought…
I hope this review removed the elephant in the room concerning Gas powered products being better than Battery powered products. At some point we all need to welcome in the 22nd century! You might as well start now… Peace, SGB
