I started drumming in high school as a hobby, and I certainly like to bang the drums when I get a chance. But like anything else in life, drums have taken a back seat to other interests, like work, kids, and TV. Mostly, because drums can be a rather noisy proposition … especially to the neighbors.
Redison, a French start-up, may have solved the noise issue of standard drums with the innovative Senstroke, the first connected system for drummers of all skill levels. Senstroke can reproduce movements, the impact of drumsticks and a drummer’s footwork identically to create a unique musical experience.
The sensory system is designed for all levels of drummers, from beginners to seasoned pro. Now drummers can practice their skills while on the go, from anywhere, on any surface or object. The sensors work (via Bluetooth) with most smartphones or tablets and the free Senstroke App (iOS and Android), which has been upgraded to include several new features including interactive lessons.
Senstroke’s technology allows playing drums on any surface from digital practice pads to real drums, cushions, books or tables … whatever is available. Once the playing zone is defined, the sensors are connected to the application, each touch is transformed into a MIDI note and real drums’ sounds are created instantly through the smartphone or tablet and any computer-based music software.
Everything has been designed in order to achieve the highest level of the real drumming sensation. Senstroke allows users to:
• Set up their own drum kit
• Save and load presets (drums parts elements and position)
• Save and listen to the sessions
• Share sessions through Facebook, email or computer with MIDI files
• In addition to the sensory kit, users have the option to add on Senstroke’s rubber practice pads and gain the additional benefit of a superior quality of rebound and a significant noise reduction.
The Senstroke Essential Kit includes two sensors, one pair of drumsticks, one strap attachment, one practice pad, and one USB charging cable. I absolutely LOVE the Senstroke Virtual Drumkit.
