Hello Space Co. announced the MAG DRIVE at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year. The patented, semi-superconducting regenerative drive system captures energy produced while pedaling to help recharge itself during use. The MAG DRIVE can attach to mid-hub bikes and in-wheel drive motors.
The MAG DRIVE uses a dual-battery system that alternates power banks once each battery is fully charged, which typically happens after two to three hours of riding. The system delivers an output ranging from 100W to 250W. Integrated circuitry manages the battery switching process when the charge level reaches a certain level.
HELLO Space has partnered with XERO and Toyota Tsusho Next Electronics Group since 2021 to develop the MAG DRIVE. XERO plans to use the technology to manufacture smart electric bikes for commercial production. The collaboration focuses on creating a pedal-powered charging system. First introduced as a concept in 2022, the MAG DRIVE is scheduled for release in 2026.
