There’s a moment at every Milk’n Blues show where the room shifts. As the groove begins to tighten, the crowd leans in, and something familiar rises up from the stage like a ghost with perfect timing. For me, that moment hit during “Deja Vu.” Not because of the song itself, but because it pulled a thread straight back to another era, another band, another heartbeat in the Gulf Coast Infused music scene: Ivory Tower.
Ivory Tower was never just a band. They were a genre‑bending force that could slide from Blondie to Eurythmics to Madness without losing a breath. The music they played back in the early 80’s required a ton of ingenuity. While Jay’s little brother, Todd, and I had simpler goals of getting the beer, gas and harmonizing on the way to the beach, Jay was locked into an upstairs room with a keyboard, computer and God knows what else, hashing out all of the little intricacies to the songs they chose to add to their playlist. Their keys and synthesizer work gave them a signature sound that’s stuck with me for decades! Jay and the band were fearless in choosing the tunes they’d cover. A night at one of their shows was atmospheric & textured, as if the notes were free falling from the rafters. And they had this techno side of their performances that meshed really well with their rhythm section. It pounded the dance floors! The crowds were always up on their feet. Tammy carried the female vocals like an Idol with Jay blending in where it was called for. Ivory Tower basically confirmed Milk’n Blues as a bearer of that Gulf Coast Vibe that Floridians have come to expect. This is the musical DNA that still echoes through Florida’s live‑music culture today. They’re the ancestor line, the blueprint, the shadow that still stretches across stages like this one.
Time has a way of thinning the crowd out. We’ve lost good friends along the way that have never left our thoughts and remain in our hopes of a reunion where we can enjoy each other’s company without the weight that we shoulder every day in this life. Our parents, grandparents, musicians, brothers, sisters, the people that influenced us to seek better ways and shared in staying focused on better days, most of which helped teach us how to listen and how to feel a song in our bones. That kind of loss changes the way you hear live music. It makes you appreciate the bands who still show up, still grind, still pour themselves into every note. All of these things are what makes a band like Milk’n Blues a treasure to come across.
Milk’n Blues doesn’t play for fame or flash. They play for the love of the music, the same spirit Ivory Tower carried, the same grit, the same heartbeat. Their arrangements are tight, their musicianship is clean, and their chemistry is the kind you can’t fake. They’re a working band in the truest sense: no shortcuts, no ego, just passion and craft.
Ivory Tower showed us what a tight knit band that works their butts off, can achieve. Milk’n Blues reminds us why it still matters. Watching them carry that torch and creating an atmosphere where we can all go and enjoy a night, is enough! It’s enough for them, for me, and should be for you also! :0) It makes me grateful for every musician still out there doing it for the right reasons. Milk’n Blues does it for the love of the music.
If you’re cruising Naples or just kicking sand, head over to Dogtooth’s or call them up to figure out when you can catch Milk’n Blues. They’re modern day nomads that just meander about, run into each other from time to time and put on great shows! I won’t begin to count the different band members that might drop in on any given night. That might be the most impressive thing about them!

You can hear echoes of the Gulf Coast Infusion that came before them. Milk’n Blues carries a spirit forward that honors those that came before them! Kudos!
